Funding
In accordance with Section 17 of the Health Insurance Act, 1994, a levy on registered undertakings was introduced by regulation in order to fund the operations of the Authority. (A registered undertaking is the term used for a health insurer which carries on the business of health insurance in Ireland and is included on The Register of Health Benefits Undertakings.)
The regulations introduced by the Minister set the rate to be paid at 0.14% of premium income payable on a quarterly basis and became effective from 1 April, 2001.
